The 46th International Festival of Highland Folklore will start in Zakopane on 22 August 2014 and last until 30 August.

The International Festival of Highland Folklore in Zakopane is one of the biggest and oldest folk festivals in the world, with many folk bands competing each year for prestigious prizes. The event aims to promote folk culture, presenting its many contemporary forms, diversity, and new meanings. The festival also seeks to preserve the highland heritage of Poland, Europe and the world. The initiative also includes documenting operations and archive keeping, along with educational, promotional, and artistic activities that aim to propagate traditional culture, protect heritage, and strengthen cultural, ethnic and regional identities. Thanks to the project, such unique elements of folk culture as local dialects, music, dance, customs, rites and art may all be be preserved and presented to wider audiences. The many different events happening in conjunction with the festival are an excellent way introduce the public to the richness, diversity, and merit of folk culture.
