Competition for the official promotional item of the Kolberg Year
16 December, 2013
The Institute of Music and Dance has launched an open competition for a promotional item.
The competition aims to seek out the most original industrial design for a small utilitarian item that will be used as the official promotional item of the Kolberg Year, bringing unequivocal associations with the life and work of Oskar Kolberg and the celebrations of his bicentenary, and interpreting the idea of the Kolberg Year to the fullest. The item must be fit for production and distribution in multiple copy.
The competition was launched on 16 December 2013 in the build-up to the bicentenary celebrations of Oskar Kolberg, a folklorist and ethnographer, musician and composer, researcher and documentalist, watchful observer of everyday life and author of a monumental, over 30-volume work titled “Lud. Jego zwyczaje, sposób życia, mowa, podania, przysłowia, obrzędy, gusła, zabawy, pieśni, muzyka i tańce” (The people, their customs, way of life, speech, legends, proverbs, rites, pagan ceremonies, games, songs, music and dances).
Eligible for participation are individuals holding Polish citizenship. The competition is open and secret. The winner of the first prize will receive PLN 5.000; second prize – PLN 3.000; and third prize – PLN 1.000. The winning design will be turned into the official promotional item of the Kolberg Year. Selection will be made by a panel comprising three jurors appointed by the Institute of Music and Dance.
